arac; THE GRUOP

In harmony to some of the suggested, and established, rules by the group created in 2002, 4 persons coming from 4 distinctive countries must always compose the grupoArac.
Nowadays, the four Arac integrants come from BRAZIL, Mexico, Cape Verde and India.
Between the constituents must be an art critic, a lay person, an frustrated artist and one "artist for experiences".
The whole contact and interaction between the artists should happen strictly through by internet.
From these virtual contact should be created an art work, to be brought up to the real world ("it's not in virtual world") always by the "artist for experiences"(only by the integrants of the group to have your identity known).

*the other integrants identities of Arac are known only by the group. Their identities as authors mix up with the group as a whole and come to reality only through the "artist for experiences".

the streets; ENVIRONMENT

Augusta st. is one of the most well known streets of São Paulo.
Augusta st. crosses the most famous avenues of the city: The Paulista Av.
Paulista Av. divides Augusta st. in two, and this division can be identified as social, as well as geographic.
Different from the Brazilian social cliché scenario, in which poor people live side by side with the riches class of the country not in a very harmonious way, the most characteristic urban types walk all over both sides of Augusta.
One side in bohemian, underground, and habited by prostitutes.

The other, known as ‘Jardins’ (in english 'Gardens'), is a place for fashion people and well born ‘alternative’ types. “From time to time a typical habitant from one side must visit the other", tell us Eli Golande, "artist for experiences" to grupoArac.

ICON for AUGUSTA

‘Icon for Augusta’ proposition was to create a single sticker, which was supposed to produce two different images, depending on the angle the observer would take.

The Aracs posted zeppelins in the highest status side -"Jardins"- and submarines in the other side(underground, obscure and supposedly decadent).

Now Arac is finishing a series of 20 images.
Superposed stickers collected in walls and posts in Augusta in the last 3 years compose those images.

Closely linked to the series

is another action proposed by Arac

in which the group posts stickers in panes,

reproducing the original inscriptions
of these panes.

These stickers cover

other stickers which were

covering the inscriptions.

The practice of covering panes

is also observed in Berlin,

where Arac Group intends

to take action in next July.

In the end of year 2006 the grupoArac has organized an experimental exposition in one corner to walk 1.200.000 peoples at day. The exposition took place in the group’s indoor space, in Paulista Avenue.

In 2007 the place chosen as host for Arac is in Augusta, where the group intends to finish the work that will be shown in Berlin next July.

In streets, supermarkets(photo), buses and phone cabs the "artist for experiences" intends to mark his daily travel posting stickers.

Arac’s "artist for experiences" is going to repeat, in Berlin, such works already tested in Brazil, as well as create new interferences based on his routine in the German city.

The interferences will be registered every day in the group’s blog.

STUDY #18

"The cold look of who shoots!"
and "The look desesperate

of who takes the shot!"

"STUDY #18-performance" constructs a narration while the "artist for experiements" post stickers, in real time.

estudy #18 - 12 frames

“Our inspiration is São Paulo’s street painters who, high up in the city's tall buildings, juggle to paint their tags. For obvious reasons, they manage to work unknown.

However, Arac would like, one day in a near future, to be invited to watch these painters in action.
We, and certainly many other people, would pay for this ‘presentation’”, says "artist for experiments" Eli Golande.

Extremely visual, "STUDY#18-performance" uses music as a complement.
Crude or sampled music, break beat or classical. Under different musical styles, the performance’s visual rhythm does not change (watch the video).

Several short stories (approximately ten minutes each) transcend the constructed image, focusing the act of fixing and detaching stickers.
